  • Jan. 29, 12:00 – 1:30pm MT:  The National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health is presenting a webinar on Indigenous-specific Health Impact Assessment: What would it look like in Canada? This webinar will explore what distinctions-based Indigenous-specific health impact assessment could look like, advancing Indigenous Peoples’ knowledges, values, and priorities throughout the HIA process.   • Feb. 3, 6:30 – 10:00pm MT:  Calgary’s Grand Theatre is hosting a special event, Honouring the Legacy of Charles Daniels for Black History Month.  Mr. Daniels experienced racial discrimination in 1914 when he was denied access to his ticketed seat and instead directed to a seat in the “coloured section”, who then hired a lawyer and filed a discrimination lawsuit against the theatre ownership and management, making it one of the first civil rights cases in Alberta. The evening will include art, live music, and storytelling, celebrating Mr. Daniels legacy and modern Black artists. Buy tickets here

  • Feb. 5, 1:00 – 3:00pm MT:  Join an online webinar on The Future of EDI at Post-Secondary Institutions in Alberta & Beyond. Dr. Shirley Anne Tate, UAlberta’s CRC Chair in Feminism and Intersectionality will provide a keynote lecture, followed by a roundtable, where scholars featured in Unmasking Academia will connect their insights to the current EDI landscape.   • DYK that the UCalgary Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning has a Community of Practice space for Inclusive Teaching and Learning? Participants have an opportunity to connect, share, and discuss EDIA in post-secondary teaching and learning.  The group meets virtually once a month.  More information on getting involved here

  • The Indigenous Corporate Training Inc recently posted an article on their blog, 5 Things to Know When Working with Indigenous Communities, with ways that organizations can start to build productive and mutually beneficial relationships with an Indigenous community.  

  • Looking to ensure your documents and presentations are legible for people with low vision?  The Braille Institute has created a family of fonts that feature clear, highly distinctive letters and numbers that make reading easier and more accessible.  Check out the Atkinson Hyperlegible® font!

  • The Canadian Race Relations Foundation and The Globe and Mail have released a recording of Finding Common Ground: Systemic Racism in Canada – Policy Opportunities, a recent event in Calgary that explored plans and strategies to tackle racism and discrimination, with a focus on actionable policies to create a more equitable Canada.

  • The Alberta Human Rights Commission has several webcast series on YouTube discussing topics such as Understanding and Preventing Harassment in the Workplace, Gender Discrimination, and Duty to Accommodate.

  • The National Collaborating Centre for Indigenous Health created a national digital storytelling project, Seeing the Stories of our Health: Perspectives of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Youth to better understand what health and well-being mean to Indigenous young people.

Well Doc Alberta
Well Doc Alberta is an initiative aimed at advancing a collaborative, co-operative, pan-provincial approach to physician wellness. Their work, focused on education and prevention, is supported by the science of physician wellness and driven by need. Well Doc works with physicians at the grassroots level and with leadership to grow capacity, empower change, shift culture, and achieve their vision of “Shaping the future of physician wellness, together.”

Alberta Medical Association Physician & Family Support Program
The AMA's Physician and Family Support Program provides confidential support and help with personal health issues and enhances the quality of patient care and public safety by promoting health and well-being for the medical profession that cares for all Albertans. Vital Signs

Vital Signs began in 1996 as a black-and-white stapled newsletter. It evolved over the years, eventually becoming a sleek and modern digital magazine until it was discontinued in 2020.
